Talent is Everywhere. Opportunity Is Not.
In Washington Heights and the Bronx, students face compounding barriers that simply don’t exist: a few subway stops away, less access to college counseling, fewer professional networks, and neighborhoods carrying the city’s highest rates of poverty and environmental burden.
OUR SOLUTION
A school-based system for College, Career and Leadership Success
The students we serve in Washington Heights and the Bronx are mostly first-generation college-bound, often navigating their futures without the benefit of inherited knowledge, mentorship, or exposure to high-paying career pathways. At the same time, they are growing up in communities disproportionately impacted by environmental and public health inequities, which shape both daily life and long-term opportunity.
Futures Ignite addresses these barriers by embedding college and career pathways, civic science, and leadership development directly into the school experience, ensuring that students build real-world skills, gain exposure to meaningful opportunities, and see themselves as agents of change in their communities.
From high school through the critical first year after graduation, students receive sustained, school-based support to translate potential into action. The result is not only college access, but long-term economic mobility, leadership development, and the ability to transform both individual and community futures

“Gaining leadership skills through Futures Ignite’s Civic Science Leadership program helped me see my future clearly. I plan to study computer science and finance, and to keep using science and leadership to give back to my community.”
– Juan
our model
Future Hubs: Inside the School. For Every Student.
A Model for Launching Leaders
Futures Ignite operates a Future Hub in each partner high school and works directly in classrooms—so students engage in college and career exploration as part of the school day.
In 9th and 10th grade, all students participate in structured exposure through civic science, leadership, and career-connected learning—building skills and expanding what they see as possible.
By 11th and 12th grade—and into the first year after graduation—support becomes individualized and action-oriented, helping students define a path and take concrete steps to pursue it.

Our School Partners
We currently partner with two schools, by 2027 we will expand to our third school and continue to grow to five schools by 2029.

Even though I was overwhelmed and unsure, with encouragement and guidance, I applied to 11 colleges and discovered opportunities that made college affordable. Futures Ignite showed me that even in the hardest moments, it’s possible to keep moving toward your dreams.”

Why future hubs works
A whole-school model
Future Hubs succeed because they combine civic leadership, college access, and career pathways directly inside the daily life of partner schools.

Civic Leadership Through Science Research
Students conduct research on real challenges affecting their communities—from air quality to urban heat—and present their findings publicly. These experiences build leadership skills, confidence, and a strong foundation for college and careers.

A Whole-School Model
Future Hubs engage all students, not just the highest performing or those already on a college track. Workshops, exposure opportunities, and leadership pathways help every student see themselves as capable of success after high school.

Embedded School Partnerships
Futures Ignite works inside partner schools alongside counselors, teachers, and administrators. This embedded approach makes leadership development and college and career pathways visible and accessible every day.

Long-Term Student Support
Futures Ignite supports students from early high school exposure through the critical transition into college and career pathways—ensuring they stay connected to opportunity long after graduation day.
“I plan to major in Environmental Science, and that only feels possible because of Futures Ignite. Most importantly, I now have the confidence to know I can actually get there.”
– Lucero
